A Night Among the Stars

Jose Milla, Materials Management, was honored as a 2012 Champion of Service Excellence!

Each year, Duke Raleigh Hospital honors a select group of team members as Champions of Service Excellence.  While these employees come from a number of departments and varying areas of expertise, they all have one thing in common – exemplary dedication to service excellence.

Exercise Specialist Todd Berger’s work ethic is earmarked by focus and dedication to mission.  For example, to ensure his client at the Duke Raleigh Wellness Center could maintain a healthy lifestyle, Todd rode his bike to the Raleigh YMCA to personally pick-up a financial hardship paper for his client.

Duke Raleigh Cancer Center Clinical Nurse Julie Yamadi often visits with patients at home or runs errands for them.  She also led the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center’s effort to raise $19,000 for the 2012 North Raleigh Relay for Life.

Tim Kelly, the chief radiation therapist at the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center, had a heart-to-heart talk with a patient who was planning to give up on continuing his treatments.  After talking with Tim, the patient agreed to continue treatment, and Tim personally went each day to take the patient to therapy and to return him to his room.

While Nikki Clark, a nursing care assistant in same day surgery works diligently to take care of her patients, she also brings a little fun into the day for employees.  At every holiday, Nikki can be seen throughout the hospital sporting festive hats and headbands to brighten the spirits of her patients and co-workers.

Pharmacy Technician, Shannon Green works closely with many patients and employees in the Plaza Pharmacy.  She is noted as an advocate for her customers to the point of providing “second-mile service.”  Her commitment to reducing medicine costs landed her the unofficial title of “Coupon Queen” as she scours the web to obtain money-saving coupons for individuals with high co-pays.

Duke Raleigh Hospital celebrated these and many other amazing individuals at the eighth annual Duke Raleigh Champions of Service dinner at the Renaissance in North Hills on Thursday, October 11.
