Figs are sweet in flavor and high in potassium, calcium, iron and fiber; which, makes them a great healthy alternative for desserts.

We love this simple recipe from the American Diabetes Association for Fresh Grilled Figs:

Serves: 4; Serving size: 3 fig halves

Ingredients

6 medium fresh figs
1 tsp aged balsamic vinegar
1 tsp Acacia or orange blossom honey
2 tsp thinly sliced fresh mint

Preparation

  1. Lightly coat a grill or grill pan with natural cooking spray.
  2. Preheat grill or grill pan over medium high heat.
  3. Remove stems from the figs and slice in half vertically.
  4. Brush the cut surface of the figs with vinegar.
  5. Grill, cut side down, for about 3 minutes or until charred.
  6. Drizzle with honey and top with mint.
