1. Can you explain your role at Duke?
I am a Registered Nurse at Duke Raleigh Hospital on the Third Floor Orthopedic/Neuro-Spine. I primarily provide care to those who have recently had joint and back surgery. I also take care of Medical-Surgical patients as well as patients receiving a Step-down level of care.
2. What inspired you to choose this career path?
My inspiration for becoming a nurse came from my desire to help those experiencing a vulnerable time in their lives and to be a part of the ever-changing world of medicine. Not only do I have the opportunity to impact people’s lives for the better, but I am part of a career path that will always require me to learn something new!
3. What do you find most rewarding about your job?
The reward for me comes from making a positive impact in a patient’s life. It’s always heart-warming to hear the remarks of a happy patient or receive a letter from them after I’ve provided care. For my surgical patients, I love being able to see them adapt to their new joint. It’s always rewarding to see improvement in a patient’s health and know that you contributed.
4. If you hadn’t chosen this career, what other profession interests you?
If I wasn’t an RN or in the health field, I would likely be finding a way to travel the world while being compensated for it at the same time. So I guess that would be considered being a travel host!
5. When you are not at work, how do you unwind?
When I’m not at work, I loved traveling prior to COVID! These days, I enjoy walks and hikes on various nature trails, listening to music and engaging in volunteer work.
